Every business has a beginning. Ours began with a small convenience store.

When Katsumi Oiwa first came to America from Japan, he opened a small convenience store and began building a life as a business owner. Like many entrepreneurs, he quickly discovered that running a business meant navigating challenges he had never encountered before.

At the time, accepting credit cards was still relatively new, and the payment processing industry could be difficult to understand. For Katsumi, navigating this unfamiliar world presented an additional challenge: much of the information, communication, and support available to business owners existed within a language and system that was new to him.

But instead of accepting what he didn't understand, Katsumi became determined to learn.

His curiosity led him into the world of merchant services, where he discovered CoCard and a network of independent sales offices built on the belief that businesses could accomplish more by sharing knowledge, resources, and experience. Through that network, he found more than an opportunity to learn the industry — he found friends, mentors, and allies who helped shape his journey.

What began as one business owner's desire to better understand credit card processing eventually became something much larger.

Over the years, the payments industry has transformed. What was once unfamiliar technology has become an essential part of everyday business.
